Our Toddler Rooms
Toddlers have 4 activity rooms. There is free flow access between all the rooms to provide plenty of room for young children to explore and mix together while learning through play.
Our Toddler Rooms are fun and set in a stimulating and safe environment where children are supported and encouraged to learn and develop at their own pace. It consists of defined areas which are well resourced and suitable for the age and stage of the children in the room. Activities are planned to meet the individual needs of our children while simple challenges help to develop self-esteem and foster a sense of accomplishment.
Room Introductions
As the children in the baby room progress, children begin to show an increasing independence and obvious pleasure in moving, communicating and learning through play, so just before their second birthday we will arrange inductions for the child to introduce them to the toddler rooms and to make transitions smooth and happy for them.
In the toddlers room children have a slightly more structured routine to their day whilst learning through a wide range of fun activities and experiences planned for their continued learning and development by all the toddlers’ teachers but particularly their key person who will get to know them really well.
Room Activities
The rooms are divided into different areas. One will include all their messy activities: arts and crafts, play dough, cornflower and many more, role-play, mark making, book and cosy corner, construction and small world . The other room will include areas like their, sand and water play, science and nature, music and movement and Maths and ICT. There is also a library and the Toddlers also have access to our Computer Room and Sensory Room.
We also have a sleep room for those children who need a rest.
Daily Routines
Members of staff use daily planning, six week planning and next steps for each child focusing on the prime areas. Around this age children display a greater competence at moving and talking and pretending. They also show increased confidence in themselves and their skills at making relationships.
The general routine of the Toddler room incorporates time for music and movement sessions, outdoor play, quiet time, cookery, creative play, independent free play, as well as adult led activities.
All Inclusive
Depending on what session’s children attend we provide breakfast, a hot lunch cooked on site, tea and healthy snacks which include fresh and dried fruit for the Toddlers during both morning and afternoon sessions.
The children in the toddler room are able to explore and learn throughout their day without too much pressure and at their own pace. They all get time in the nursery’s fantastic garden which will provide them with an outdoor extension to their indoor activities.
Potty Training
At this age also children will be experiencing the change from nappies to potties and toilets. The Nursery has recently introduced a Potty Training Pack that each child starting Potty Training gets. Each pack contains a Training pant, Training Nappy, Stickers and a Sticker chart as well as Information for parents and we also provide books that parents can borrow to introduce their child to Potty Training.
Whatever the challenge, you can be assured that our staff are well trained, motivated and committed and work alongside parents/carers during this transition.
